A regional call for capital and collaboration

The Pension Industry Association of Jamaica (PIAJ) held its annual luncheon with Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness as guest speaker. PIAJ President Sanya Goffe highlighted the industry's challenges, including limited coverage and inadequate savings. She stressed the need for policy intervention and collaboration between industry and government to address these issues. The pension sector manages Jamaica's largest pool of long-term capital, which can contribute to the country's development. Goffe noted that infrastructure, productive enterprise, and local capital markets are areas where pension investment can play a critical role. The prime minister will need to achieve a 'social partnership for transformation' to make his vision a reality, requiring a more community-driven approach and genuine collaboration between industry and government.
