A special summer for Florida’s Legislature?

The Florida Legislature will hold a special session next week to address congressional redistricting, artificial intelligence, and vaccine exemptions. A budget session is scheduled from May 12 to May 29. Governor Ron DeSantis has called for a property tax overhaul and pledged to call multiple sessions until it is put on the November ballot. The budget agreement between House Speaker Daniel Perez and Senate President Ben Albritton will result in a lower overall budget than the current fiscal year's $114.8 billion. The Legislature's actions are taking place as lawmakers are away from home and the campaign trail with the midterm elections looming. DeSantis's moves have been seen as an effort to remain relevant or appeal to conservative voters if he runs for president again in 2028.
