Aadhaar Card Free Update Deadline Extended: Check New Date And Online Process

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has officially extended the deadline for free online Aadhaar updates by one year. Previously set to expire on June 16, 2026, the facility will now remain free until June 14, 2027, allowing users to update their identity and address documents without fees via the myAadhaar portal. UIDAI confirmed the extension in a statement, noting that free updates will continue from June 15, 2026, to June 14, 2027. This move aims to improve accuracy in the Aadhaar database by encouraging timely updates. Typically, Aadhaar updates incur fees, but UIDAI has waived costs for online identity and address corrections through the portal. To update Aadhaar details online, users must log in to myAadhaar using their Aadhaar number and OTP. They can then verify their existing details, upload valid identity and address proof documents (JPEG, PNG, or PDF under 2MB), and submit the request. Biometric updates, including fingerprints, iris scans, and photographs, still require in-person visits to Aadhaar enrollment or update centers. The free update service is currently available only through the myAadhaar portal, as the Aadhaar app is set to be discontinued. Physical Aadhaar centers may charge fees for updates, and users must ensure their uploaded documents are valid and meet UIDAI’s requirements. This extension benefits millions of Aadhaar holders, particularly those who have not updated their records in years. The move aligns with UIDAI’s goal of maintaining an accurate and up-to-date national identity database.
