Apple’s iOS 27, unveiled at WWDC 2026, includes several understated CarPlay improvements aimed at improving driver convenience. The Now Playing interface now supports audio scrubbing, allowing users to skip sections of podcasts or audiobooks by dragging the progress bar—a feature previously requiring tap-and-hold skip buttons. A new Audio MiniPlayer, a pill-shaped floating control in the upper-right corner, keeps play/pause and skip functions accessible even during fullscreen navigation, reducing distractions. A key innovation is CarPlay’s ability to collaborate with vehicle software, enabling navigation apps like Apple Maps, Waze, or Google Maps to share route data with the car’s onboard system. For electric vehicles, this could automatically suggest charging stops based on range and available stations, updating the route dynamically.
