BJP victory could make 2027 India’s last poll: Akhilesh Yadav

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav claimed a BJP victory in both the 2027 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections and the next Lok Sabha polls could make these the last democratic elections in India. Speaking during a trip from Kasganj to Safai via Mainpuri, Yadav accused the BJP-led governments at the center and in Uttar Pradesh of fueling inflation, damaging the economy, and ignoring public grievances. He argued the BJP’s ‘double-engine government’ had failed, deepening economic distress and exposing governance shortcomings. Yadav alleged rampant corruption in Uttar Pradesh, including land-grabbing by BJP workers, and claimed mismanagement in the power sector despite promises of development. He also accused the government of targeting opposition leaders through politically motivated cases, citing recent actions against Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee in West Bengal. Yadav contrasted this with past cases against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, which he said were withdrawn after the BJP leader took office. The SP leader emphasized the need for opposition unity to challenge the BJP, noting that both the Samajwadi Party and Congress were preparing to contest all 403 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh. He criticized BJP leaders for lowering political discourse standards through divisive rhetoric and personal attacks. Yadav’s remarks reflect growing opposition efforts to frame the 2027 elections around democracy, governance, and economic issues. His warnings come amid speculation about opposition strategies ahead of the Uttar Pradesh elections, where political tensions are escalating. Yadav’s statements signal a sharpening battle, with opposition parties positioning themselves to counter the BJP’s dominance through coordinated efforts.
