Call for births to resume at Crowborough unit

Campaigners are calling for births to resume at Crowborough Birthing Centre after services were suspended in October. Births were suspended due to staffing pressures, while antenatal and postnatal services continued as normal. Genevieve Gresset from the Friends of Crowborough Hospital said the change had a traumatic impact on local women. Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust is meeting with partners in May to confirm next steps. Women who were due to give birth at the centre had to travel to Pembury, Kent, almost an hour away. The trust and integrated care boards are working together to ensure sustainable and compassionate maternity care.
