Carson High School seniors earn more than $12 million in scholarships

Carson High School celebrated its Class of 2026 at the annual Salute to Scholars ceremony on May 22, recognizing students who earned over $12 million in scholarships from 75 local sponsors. Superintendent AJ Feuling praised the class for pursuing top universities, including Texas A&M, the University of Pennsylvania, and Stanford, while also commending those attending the University of Nevada, Reno, and trade colleges. The event honored military enlistees, including students joining the Army, Navy, and Marine Corps, and featured Vivi Mellow as the recipient of a competitive Air Force ROTC Scholarship. The John and Grace Nauman Foundation awarded five students $5,000 annually for four years at the University of Nevada, Reno, reinforcing its commitment to local education. Legacy scholarships were also highlighted, such as the 15th anniversary of the Stephen Anderson Memorial Scholarship and the inaugural Principal Dan Carsten Scholarship, established in memory of his son. The ceremony underscored the role of community support in student success, with sponsors like the Nauman Foundation and families contributing to opportunities for graduates. Among the 60+ scholarship recipients were Julia Aquino, Johnny Alvarado, and Vivi Mellow, among others, each recognized for academic and personal achievements. The evening emphasized collective pride in Carson High’s students, reinforcing the school’s partnership with Carson City’s community to foster educational attainment.
