CCISD superintendent named Region 2 Superintendent of the Year, advances to state competition

Corpus Christi Independent School District Superintendent Roland Hernandez has earned the Region 2 Superintendent of the Year award from the Education Service Center. The honor highlights his work in boosting student achievement, enhancing educational quality, and strengthening community support within CCISD, one of South Texas’s largest school systems with 32,000 students across 54 campuses. Hernandez will now compete for the Texas Superintendent of the Year title, with state finalists announced in the fall. Board President Dolly Gonzales Trolley praised his leadership, calling it a testament to his dedication to students, staff, and families. This recognition follows his 2024 award from the Texas High School Athletic Directors Association and a 2020 state finalist nomination from the Texas Association of School Boards. With nearly three decades of administrative experience, Hernandez has led CCISD since 2014. His credentials include a bachelor’s from Texas State University, a master’s from the University of Houston-Clear Lake, and a doctorate from The University of Texas at Austin. The district, founded in 1909, emphasizes preK-12 education to prepare students for college, careers, and civic engagement. The award underscores Hernandez’s focus on academic excellence and community collaboration. His advancement to the state competition reflects CCISD’s commitment to innovation and equity in education.
