Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints provides guideposts for using AI in new video

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has published a new video aimed at helping members navigate the use of artificial intelligence (AI) while maintaining spiritual and relational integrity. The hour-long workshop, *Faith, Dignity, and Human Flourishing: Hearing God’s voice in an Age of AI*, was released on the Church’s YouTube channel and emphasizes that AI should serve as a tool rather than a replacement for human connections. Elder Geritt W. Gong of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles delivered key teachings in the video, stating that AI and chatbots can assist with logistics or drafting but cannot replicate personal relationships with God, others, or oneself. He urged members to set boundaries, warning against confiding more in AI than in trusted individuals like parents, leaders, or friends. Gong introduced three 'gospel-centered guideposts' for AI use: relying on the Spirit, practicing wisdom, and choosing trusted sources. He stressed that while technology can provide information, only divine guidance can transform individuals spiritually. The video also cautioned against viewing people as mere data points in algorithms, reminding members that God has a personal plan for each of them. The Church’s initiative reflects growing concerns about AI’s ethical implications, particularly in personal and spiritual decision-making.
