Google announces free AI training for school teachers in Maharashtra, Assam, Punjab and other regions

Google launched a series of AI-focused education partnerships for India, including teacher training programs with state governments and new AI learning tools for students. The initiative, announced at the Education World Forum 2026 in London, introduces the Google AI Educator Series (GES) to train educators on responsible AI tool use like Gemini in classrooms. The program will collaborate with Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Assam, Ladakh, and the Punjab School Education Board to provide mobile-first AI training for teachers. Training modules will be tailored to Indian educators and initially localized into Assamese, Hindi, Marathi, Telugu, Odia, and Punjabi through pilot projects in select states. Google linked the initiative to India’s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasizes AI for teacher training and technology integration. The company also plans to expand partnerships with more state governments, higher education institutions, and regulatory bodies as the program scales. Additionally, Google introduced AI-based learning features in Search, including AI mode updates for creating study guides and interactive quizzes via Canvas. The feature includes a side panel for drafting and refining study materials. Earlier this year, Google partnered with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Chaudhary Charan Singh University to develop India’s first AI-enabled state university. The collaboration aims to modernize vocational education and skills training using cloud and AI technologies.
