Google Confirms First International Retail Store in Japan

Google will open its first physical store outside the U.S. in Tokyo’s Omotesando district this summer, located on the first floor of Tokyu Plaza shopping mall. The store will allow customers to try, purchase, repair, and receive support for Google hardware, including Pixel phones, Nest devices, Fitbit products, and accessories. It will also serve as a pickup location for online orders from Google Store Japan. The decision follows Pixel’s strengthened position in Japan’s smartphone market, giving Google an opportunity to test its hardware ecosystem’s appeal in a physical retail setting. The store will feature exclusive Pixel colors and showcase AI technologies, alongside technical support for troubleshooting, setup, and repairs. Unlike competitors such as Apple and Samsung, which operate multiple international stores, Google has historically sold products overseas primarily through online orders or third-party retailers. This Tokyo store marks its first international outlet and 11th globally, continuing a pattern of prioritizing Japan for early international expansions, including its first overseas office. Customers will experience a blend of Japanese design elements, such as wooden baton framing, with Google’s branding. The store aims to provide a seamless experience, combining new product launches with hands-on support for existing users. This initiative reflects Google’s broader strategy to deepen its presence in Japan’s tech market.
