Isuzu updates MU-X with added safety tech and refined 1.9l diesel

Isuzu South Africa has revealed the 2026 model year updates for its MU-X SUV, introducing advanced safety and technology enhancements. The top-tier Onyx XT variants now feature Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control, which adjusts speed to maintain a safe distance from surrounding vehicles. Additional new features include Traffic Sign Recognition and an Intelligent Speed Limiter, both utilizing a forward-facing camera to detect speed limits and prevent unintentional speeding. Under the hood, the 1.9L turbodiesel engine in LS models has been refined for improved smoothness and fuel efficiency, retaining its original output of 110kW and 350Nm of torque. The 3.0L turbodiesel engine, producing 140kW and 450Nm, remains unchanged across LS, LSE, and Onyx XT models. All engines are paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, with 4x2 or 4x4 configurations available depending on the variant. The updated MU-X lineup now includes a dedicated USB port integrated with the stereo camera system for Onyx XT models, alongside standard headlamp welcome lights that activate when the vehicle is unlocked remotely. Existing features such as a hands-free power tailgate, a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 360-degree surround-view camera system remain on select models. The suspension setup has been upgraded with larger-diameter shock absorbers to enhance ride comfort, both on-road and off-road. The flagship Onyx XT retains its distinctive gloss black exterior detailing, red ambient cabin lighting, and XT-specific badging. Pricing for the updated MU-X ranges from R752,300 for the 1.9 LS 4x2 to R1,026,800 for the 3.0 Onyx XT 4x4.
