Jeff Bezos-led AI startup Prometheus valued at eye-popping $41B in blockbuster fundraising

Jeff Bezos’s artificial intelligence startup Prometheus announced a $41 billion valuation following a $12 billion funding round led by major financial firms including Goldman Sachs, BlackRock, and JPMorgan Chase. Bezos, who co-CEOs the venture alongside former Google executive Vik Bajaj, personally contributed to the investment. The company, launched in November, focuses on creating AI-driven tools to streamline the development of intricate products such as jet engines or medical devices. Prometheus aims to address the lengthy timelines associated with engineering complex systems. Bezos highlighted in an interview with Axios that designing a jet engine with 10% more thrust could take a decade due to its complexity, not inefficiency. The startup’s technology is intended to empower engineers to reduce this cycle time by a factor of 10 or more, enabling faster iteration. The company has already assembled a team of 150 employees and operates independently from Amazon and Bezos’s rocket company, Blue Origin. Prometheus does not have a public website, and its operations remain largely confidential. Bezos, now 62, has increasingly directed his attention toward AI ventures since stepping down as Amazon CEO in 2021, while retaining his role as executive chairman of the e-commerce giant. Currently ranked as the world’s fourth-richest individual, Bezos’s net worth stands at approximately $260 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. The funding round underscores the growing competition and investment in AI innovation, positioning Prometheus as a major player in the sector.
