Louisiana Seafood Cook-Off celebrates state’s culinary talent; Lafayette chef set to compete

The 19th Annual Louisiana Seafood Cook-Off (LASCO) will be held for the first time in Jefferson Parish, specifically at the Pontchartrain Center in Kenner, on June 26. Twelve chefs from across Louisiana were selected to compete, including Kris Allen, Executive Chef at Pamplona Tapas Bar and Restaurant & Gravy in Lafayette. The event aims to showcase Louisiana’s culinary talent and seafood heritage, with dishes highlighting the state’s world-famous seafood traditions. Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser emphasized the importance of LASCO in promoting Louisiana’s food culture and economy. He stated that the competition celebrates the hardworking chefs, fishermen, and processors who contribute to the state’s unique culinary identity. The event also supports local seafood industries by raising awareness and fostering pride in Louisiana’s food traditions. Competing chefs represent various regions, including Trudy Alexander from Kenner Seafood in Kenner, Thomas Boquet from Spahr’s Seafood in Thibodaux, and Chris Vazquez from Ralph’s on the Park in New Orleans. Each chef brings a distinct interpretation of Louisiana seafood, from tapas-style dishes to classic bayou-inspired recipes. The competition coincides with the third annual Foodie Feast Restaurant Week, hosted by Visit Jefferson Parish. This partnership aims to further promote local dining and culinary innovation across the region. The event underscores Louisiana’s role as a hub for seafood excellence, blending tradition with contemporary culinary creativity.
