MBSA e-sports competition draws hundreds of gamers

Hundreds of gamers competed in the Shah Alam Esports Championship 2026, a two-day tournament held at Central i-City in Selangor, Malaysia. Organized by Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), the event featured three gaming categories: PUBG Mobile, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, and EA Sports FC 26. The tournament received 64 entries for PUBG Mobile and FC26, and 32 for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, with a total prize pool of RM10,000—RM4,000 each for PUBG Mobile and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, and RM2,000 for FC26. Deputy Mayor Safriah Md Adzhar launched the event, emphasizing e-sports’ evolution into a major industry driving youth engagement and development. She noted that e-sports demand discipline, teamwork, and mental resilience, contrasting with the misconception of it being mere leisure. The tournament aimed to foster talent while promoting integrity and sportsmanship among participants from Shah Alam and the Klang Valley. MBSA Deputy Secretary (Management) Shahrin Ahmad and Zone Six Councillor Mohd Firdaus Mokhtar attended the event, supporting MBSA’s initiative to strengthen community ties through positive digital competition. Safriah highlighted how e-sports aligns with technological advancements, offering a structured platform for youths to compete and develop skills in a controlled environment. The championship underscored Malaysia’s growing recognition of e-sports as a competitive and skill-based discipline. By providing a structured arena for gaming talent, MBSA’s event seeks to bridge youth engagement with broader community development goals.
