Meta inks deal to use Amazon’s Graviton processors for AI

Amazon and Meta have signed a multibillion-dollar deal for Meta to rent hundreds of thousands of Amazon's Graviton processors for its AI efforts. The multiyear deal gives Meta access to the Graviton line of processors. Artificial intelligence models are typically built using Nvidia's graphics processing units, but general-purpose central processing units like Graviton can be used for related tasks, including generating responses to queries after a model is trained. Amazon's shares rose 1.8% in early trading on Friday. Meta has taken a broad approach to securing chips for its AI efforts, signing megadeals with chipmakers like Nvidia and AMD, and is also developing its own silicon to reduce costs.
