Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren to see primary challenge. By who?

Navajo Nation Speaker Crystaylne Curley has filed her application to run for Navajo Nation president. She is one of three female candidates in a field of 16 seeking the presidency. The primary election will be held on July 21, narrowing the field to the top two candidates, who will vie in November. Curley has worked within the Navajo Nation government since she was in high school and became the first woman to serve as Speaker of the Navajo Nation in 2023. She outlined three key commitments for her campaign: building a government that listens to and includes the people, ensuring accessibility while strengthening communities and essential services, and providing leadership that firmly upholds Navajo sovereignty. Curley faces a significant obstacle: the enduring stigma surrounding women in leadership, as the Navajo Nation has never had a female president.
