Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen and state health officials addressed the arrival of 18 passengers from the hantavirus-stricken MV Hondius cruise ship during a briefing on Monday. The group, including 17 US citizens and one British national, landed in Omaha early Monday morning after being evacuated from Tenerife, Spain. One passenger tested mildly positive for hantavirus and is asymptomatic, while another showed mild symptoms—a resolved cough—and is under close monitoring. All passengers are being assessed at the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s National Quarantine Unit, one of the most advanced facilities in the US for handling high-consequence infectious diseases.
