ODM suspends 2027 coalition talks with UDA

Kenya's Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has suspended coalition talks with President William Ruto's United Democratic Alliance (UDA). The decision was made after a tense, seven-hour meeting of ODM's Central Management Committee, which was chaired by party leader Oburu Oginga. The committee cited frustrations over UDA's perceived attempts to undermine ODM, including enticing ODM MPs to defect. ODM has demanded respect from UDA and resolution of the issues before resuming coalition talks. The party plans to intensify mobilization across the country, holding youth conventions in 25 counties and a joint retreat for its National Executive Committee. ODM has also laid claim to the Deputy President's slot and demanded political zoning to protect its traditional bastions.
