Punjab Confirms Dates for Summer School Holidays

Punjab’s Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat confirmed on Monday that summer school holidays will begin on 22 May and end on 23 August, granting students a break of just over three months. The decision affects all schools across the province. The Punjab Disaster Management Authority previously issued warnings about above-normal temperatures and heavy rainfall expected to persist until July. These conditions could lead to heatwaves, flash floods, urban flooding, and windstorms affecting multiple regions. The Pakistan Meteorological Office added that rising temperatures may cause strong winds, dust storms, and hailstorms. Officials expressed concerns that such extreme weather could damage seasonal crops, vegetables, and orchards in the coming months. The extended holiday period may also impact educational planning, as schools prepare for potential disruptions from the forecasted weather events. Authorities are advising communities to take precautions to mitigate risks associated with the anticipated climate challenges.
