VinFast unveils its all-new, slightly-smaller VF 8

VinFast has launched its 2027 VF 8 electric vehicle in Vietnam, marking the first major redesign for the model since its introduction. The updated VF 8 is slightly smaller than its predecessor, with a 49 mm reduction in length and an 110 mm shorter wheelbase, while maintaining a 19-inch wheel size and 170 mm ground clearance. It features front-wheel drive powered by a 228-horsepower electric motor and a 60.1-kWh battery, delivering a 500-km range under European test standards. The new model introduces a redesigned chassis, frequency-selective shocks, and an integrated thermal management system developed in-house to optimize battery and motor performance. VinFast highlights upgrades in driving dynamics, energy efficiency, and fast-charging capability. Styling changes include a sleeker side profile, larger gloss-black grille, and LED-strip taillights at the rear. Inside, the cabin adopts a minimalist approach with a tablet-style instrument cluster and a 12.9-inch center touchscreen, down from the previous 15.6-inch display. The steering wheel now has a two-spoke design, and gear selection shifts to a column-mounted selector, eliminating buttons from the center console. Standard features include dual-zone climate control, power-adjustable seats, and a 360-degree camera. VinFast has not confirmed whether the VF 8’s specifications will differ for export markets, including Canada, where the current 2026 model offers all-wheel drive and an 87.7-kWh battery with a range of 373–412 km. If the 2027 VF 8 arrives in Canada with front-wheel drive and a smaller battery, it may also carry a lower starting price than the current $53,600 Eco trim. The automaker continues expanding globally, having opened a North Carolina factory in 2022 to produce the VF 8 and VF 9, with plans for an initial annual capacity of 150,000 vehicles. VinFast sold approximately 1,165 vehicles in Canada in 2025, up from 900 in 2024, as it strengthens its presence in North America.
