Meta officially introduced paid subscription plans for WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook on May 27, 2026, marking its first major monetization push beyond ads. The company announced three separate tiers—WhatsApp Plus ($2.99/month), Instagram Plus ($3.99/month), and Facebook Plus ($3.99/month)—each unlocking exclusive features while keeping core app functionality free. WhatsApp Plus subscribers gain custom app themes, premium sticker packs, and the ability to pin more chats. Instagram Plus users will see Story rewatch insights, unlimited audience lists, extended Story visibility (beyond 24 hours), and the option to preview Stories anonymously. Facebook Plus offers 48-hour Stories, anonymous Story browsing, animated super-reactions, and customizable app icons. Meta emphasized that these subscriptions do not eliminate ads, distinguishing them from its ad-free European option introduced in 2023. The plans focus on premium features rather than ad removal or enhanced privacy. The company also hinted at future expansion under a unified brand, Meta One, with AI-focused tiers ($7.99 and $19.99/month) currently in testing abroad. For now, the three Plus plans remain optional, leaving free access intact. However, Meta’s strategy suggests a potential shift toward gating more features behind paid subscriptions.
