The University of Arkansas baseball team moved up four spots to No. 14 in the USA TODAY Coaches Poll released Monday, May 11, following a 2-1 series victory over Oklahoma. The Razorbacks, led by head coach Dave Van Horn, opened the series with a 12-2 win on May 9, thanks to Hunter Dietz’s complete-game effort in seven innings. Arkansas then staged an eighth-inning comeback in Game 2, overcoming an 8-5 deficit to win 12-8, with Zack Stewart delivering the go-ahead two-run double. The Razorbacks fell short in Game 3, losing 15-10 after Oklahoma scored seven runs in the seventh inning. Despite the setback, the series win improved Arkansas’s SEC record to 15-12 and overall record to 34-18. The team has already defeated top-25 opponents Mississippi State, Alabama, and Ole Miss, though they suffered recent losses to Georgia, Auburn, and Florida. UCLA remains the top-ranked team nationally, followed by North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Georgia, and Texas in the top five. Nine SEC teams appear in the top 25, including Texas A&M at No. 10 and Auburn at No. 6. Arkansas will close the regular season with a three-game series at Kentucky beginning May 14. The Razorbacks’ midweek schedule is now complete, allowing players to return from exams before the final series. Their performance in the Kentucky series will determine their standing heading into the postseason. Arkansas’s pitching staff will be tested again, as they look to build momentum after the mixed results against Oklahoma.
