Wizz Air warn new airport rules will lead to missed flights if passengers arrive two hours before

Wizz Air CEO Yvonne Moynihan has advised British travelers to extend their airport arrival time to three hours for return flights due to delays caused by the EU’s Entry-Exit System (EES). The EES, which replaces passport stamps with digital registration and fingerprint scans, has led to longer queues at border crossings, particularly in Europe. The European Commission claims the system operates effectively at 'almost all border crossing points,' but airports report worsening delays. Moynihan urged passengers to prepare for additional waiting times, recommending portable chargers or water for long queues. She emphasized that the second passport check upon return often takes longer than anticipated. Wizz Air now advises travelers to arrive three hours before departure, especially for connecting flights, where Moynihan suggested allowing 'a number of hours' between transfers. Some EU countries, including Greece, have temporarily suspended biometric scans to ease congestion and improve tourist experiences. Greece’s National Tourism Organisation confirmed that the country will revert to pre-EES passport procedures, aiming for a 'smoother and more efficient arrival experience.' The move reflects broader concerns about the EES’s impact on travel efficiency, particularly during peak seasons.
