WWDC 2026: Apple unveils Siri AI, Gemini-powered Apple Intelligence, more

Apple unveiled its most ambitious AI strategy to date during the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2026 on June 8, introducing Siri AI—a fully revamped digital assistant—and a new Apple Intelligence system built on Google’s Gemini models. The company positioned Siri AI as a more conversational, context-aware assistant capable of multi-step tasks, such as drafting emails, planning events, and retrieving data from messages or photos. Unlike previous versions, it integrates seamlessly across apps and devices, maintaining context between interactions. A dedicated Siri app was also announced, allowing users to revisit past conversations and sync interactions through iCloud. At the core of these changes is Apple Intelligence, a redesigned architecture combining on-device processing with Private Cloud Compute for tasks like writing assistance, image generation, and contextual suggestions. The system prioritizes privacy, ensuring user data remains secure and not stored externally. Visual Intelligence is a key addition, enabling Siri to interpret visual input—such as objects, text, or scenes—directly through the Camera app on iPhone or screenshot tools on macOS and iPadOS. This feature expands AI capabilities beyond voice commands, making interactions more intuitive. Updates were announced for iOS 27, macOS 27 (Golden Gate), iPadOS 27, watchOS 27, tvOS 27, and visionOS 27, all focusing on performance, reliability, and deeper AI integration. Apple emphasized that its AI approach balances advanced functionality with privacy, leveraging Gemini models while keeping user data on-device or in a secure cloud environment.
